Who We Are

The Goodrich Ranch was essentially created in 2018 by combining three generations under the same roof. We are based in Albuquerque, New Mexico

While Grandpa moved to Albuquerque in 1945, the rest of the family were born here, but living in separate houses. All of us had dreams of owning some acreage and starting a small hobby farm, and in 2018, our dreams became a reality. We purchased five acres on the west side that had a house that needed work. No strangers to renovations, we rolled up our sleeves and set to work.

The goats arrived first, followed by chickens and ducks. Shortly thereafter, we started losing ducks and chickens to coyotes. Rather than try to exterminate them, a more humane and natural way was determined to be our best course. Since our aging Rottweiler and Greyhound simply cowered under the beds, we started to look at other breeds. The Great Pyrenees came to our attention, but we had difficulty locating even a rescue animal in our local market. We did manage to find one, an intact female without registration and brought her home.

Denali is a big girl, massing close to 110 pounds with paws as big as the palm of my hand. That first night, we heard a very perturbed coyote that had been chased off the property. Since then, we haven't had a single loss due to a coyote. Denali did take a few ducks from us, but she has learned the error of her ways and now we can free range our chickens and ducks. We became lovers of the breed as they are just big teddy bears.

Denali looked very lonely after a while, and we traveled to Oklahoma in August of 2019 to pick up Goldie and Oakie, who were born that April. These two are AKC registered and our breeding pair.

Hola! Meet the Founders

We Are Christopher and Janice !

Dog lovers all of our lives, we have had many pets rescued from the Albuquerque shelters. The introduction to breeding Great Pyrenees was a logical step for us, one that we took on intentionally and enthusiastically.

Our Family

We all work together

We are building this place from the ground up and this is a very valuable experience for our youngest members. Christopher and Janice have four other children who are now out on their own. Having such a large family and extended family means we have resources beyond those that are listed on this page. Janice and Jerry have five other brothers and sisters who have 13 nieces and nephews who all live in the Albuquerque area and frequently visit.

In Memory of Donald Goodrich

Grandpa

Patriarch and beloved member of our family.  If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be in the position we are.  His wise and thoughtful nature keeps us grounded in reality.  Although retired, he still had a lot to do with our decision making process.

Due to his experience growing up on a chicken farm on the west side of Albuquerque, his advice and direction have been very much appreciated.

Grandpa passed away on 7/2/2020, he will be sorely missed on our ranch.

Christopher M Goodrich

Owner/Dog Trainer

Christopher, son of Donald, grew up in NE Albuquerque and learned to appreciate the rural life more than an urban one. His can-do attitude and tenacious nature to solve problems is widely applicable to anything that may come around. He has rarely been without dogs in his life and intuitively understands their nature and instinctual thoughts. From a very young age, he accompanied his family to their cabin, located on seven acres west of Las Vegas, NM, where he learned how to appreciate the value of nature and living somewhat off the land.

Janice Oldfield-Goodrich

Owner/Dog Trainer

Janice, wife of Christopher M, is the glue that holds everything together. With her geriatric medical background, she intuitively understands basic medical care of our animals. Born in Albuquerque, her grandfathers both owned farms in Monticello and the south valley of Albuquerque.

Jeremiah Oldfield

Owner/Dog Trainer
Jeremiah is Janice’s twin brother and shares Christopher’s view of dogs in general. His patient nature and understanding of how to handle dogs is simply amazing to watch. A kid at heart, Jerry brings a lot to the table when it comes to training. His creative mind compliments any project we undertake and acts as the ranch foreman.

Savannah Hurst

Ranch Hand
Savannah is Janice’s and Jerry’s niece from their sister. She came to live with us in 2016 and has accepted our teachings. She helps out on our ranch and is learning how to train dogs.

Charlie Oldfield

Ranch Hand
Charlie is Jerry’s son and is on the high school wrestling team. He is the workhorse and diligently keeps things humming around the ranch.

Christopher W Goodrich

Apprentice

Although the youngest, he can still help out on our ranch by performing chores and taking care of the animals. Christopher W is the son of Christopher M, and the grandson of Donald. He has recently been conducting our first incubation of chickens in a very scientific manner.

Kyle Oldfield

Apprentice
Kyle is Jerry’s other son and is in training.

Wish to Visit?

Our small ranch is not normally open to the public as it is our home as well, but that doesn't mean we don't want visitors, just that we need to schedule any visits to our spread.
